In Memory of Brian Keith McCully

Bryan Keith McCully, age 56, of Bonner Springs, Kansas passed away on September 6, 2021 unexpectedly at his home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 9th and the Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 10th both at the Bonner Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to Outdoor Mentors, an organization that helps get youth outdoors hunting and fishing. Bryan was born on January 15,1965 in Kansas City, Kansas and was the youngest of two children born to Donald and Barbara McCully. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Washington High School in the Class of 1983. He went on to attend William Jewel College on a soccer scholarship.

Bryan grew up going to his family’s farm near Horton, Kansas where he loved to hunt and fish. He loved “the farm” and spending weekends there with his dad as well as other family and friends. These adventures usually included his cousin and partner in crime, Charlie Karl.

Bryan was known for always being a hard worker. At age 14 he was helping Dr. Powers with the wheat harvest in western Kansas during the summers. He worked at Updike Asphalt and helped his father in his construction business, Quality Construction. He worked for several years with Kaye Long Foundations before beginning his apprenticeship as a lineman with Capital Electric in the early 90’s. The family lived in Horton, Kansas from 1989 to 1998 when he was hired by the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities as a Lineman, and the family moved back to Bonner Springs, Kansas. He was a proud member of the IBEW Union, local #53.

Bryan also loved time spent with his family and friends at the lake camping, fishing, boating and hanging out whether at Stockton, Perry or Tanglewood. He loved raising animals and his various assortment was often referred to as the funny farm.

Bryan was one of a kind. He lived life with a charisma that you couldn’t miss. He never knew a stranger and would help anyone who crossed his path. He was loyal to a fault and once you were in his circle, you were always included. He tackled each project that he took on like it was his last and gave his all to everything.

Bryan was preceded in death by his son Clayton McCully, father Donald McCully, Jr., mother-in-law Frances Bailey, step-father Don Sass and grandson Damian Keith Murillo.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Diana McCully of the home. Two children: David Murillo and wife Rona (Waapatho) of Horton, Kansas, Megan Moore and husband Ryan of Bonner Springs. Mother Barbara Sass, sister Dana Parks and husband Lorne all of Olathe, KS. Eleven Grandchildren: Anthony, Emory, Adriahna, Chenoa, Zoe, Rose and Sylas Murillo and Treyton, Maylee, Mia and Ryan Moore. Niece Meredith Helus and husband Corey and nephew Wade Parks. As well as several extended family and many, many friends.
