My First Deer By Youth Hunter Elliott

My First Deer

The first time I went hunting and got a deer I went with Tim Schaller. When I was 14 I had nowhere to go hunt or experience. I got signed up for outdoors mentorship which is for kids who don’t have the land and the experience to go hunting to go hunting with a mentor and a family member. I was lucky enough to get to go hunting with my mentor Tim for the first time, he is a great mentor. He taught me how to hunt and the first night I went out to go hunt with him we seen multiple deer on his land. He did not rush me to get a deer, he told me to take my time.

It was getting ready to be dark and a deer walked in. It was a doe and there was only 30 minutes left before I couldn’t hunt for the night. Tim told me if I had a shot to take it so I did. It was the best moment of my life when that deer hit the ground. We got down out of the stand to go get the deer. He helped me put the tag on it and he helped me to load it up.

I went home and skinned it that night. I had extra meat from the deer. Then I remembered what Tim told me when loading the deer up. He said “I don’t need no payment, I just want you to pass it on”. So I thought about it and I know a guy who is paralyzed from the waist down. He loved hunting but he couldn't no more so I gave him the extra meat and he enjoyed it. I’ve been hunting with Tim multiple times now and in September we are going to go fishing.
