Roger William Hampton, 61, of Osawatomie, KS passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Olathe Medical Center. Roger was well known for his stubbornness and fought the good fight over the past several weeks. Roger passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Roger was born June 22, 1960 in Garnett, KS to John Lloyd Hampton and Leota Jean Lile (Farris). Roger was lucky enough to have wonderful stepparents, Otis Lile and Jo Hampton. Otis was a constant in Roger’s life and helped develop his “fix-it” skills. Roger’s motto was why buy new if you can fix the old.
Roger attended elementary school in Greeley and later graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1978.
Roger worked for Midtown Body Shop before hiring out with Missouri Pacific Railroad. He worked as a brakeman, conductor and then later a switchman with Union Pacific, retiring in 2021.
Roger and Brigitte Ray were united in marriage on April 20, 1985. They became the parents of 4 sons, Travis Eli, Clinton William, Ethan Samuel and Seth Patrick. They made their home in rural Osawatomie.
Roger enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and collecting antique fishing lures and taking his family to the lake. He also loved watching his boys compete in wrestling, an interest he was lucky enough to enjoy with his grandsons, Wyatt and Otis.
Roger was infamous for his willingness to give young people unsolicited advice – ask Luke Page who was often on the receiving end.
Roger knew how to squeeze a penny and in the words of Red Foreman, “would put a boot in your ass” if he thought the boys were out of line.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Hampton, stepfather, Otis Lile and stepmother Jo Hampton and an infant daughter, Alexandra Hampton
Roger is survived by his sons, Travis (Jody) Hampton, Clinton Hampton, Seth Hampton and Ethan (Ashlyn) Hampton, his mother, Jean Lile, half-brothers John Hampton and Kevin Lile, half-sister Julie Overton and grandsons, Wyatt and Otis Hampton.
