2019 Kansas Governor's Ringneck Classic
Pass It On - Outdoor Mentors has been privileged to participate in the annual Kansas Governor’s Ringneck Classic Pheasant Hunt for the last several years. This year, mentor German Enriquez took young Giovanni to the hunt in Colby, KS. German and Giovanni are matched through the Youth Horizons faith-based mentoring program in Wichita.
This was the third hunt Gio has participated in with us. Last December, Gio went on his first pheasant hunt at the Youth & Women’s Hunt held annually at Glen Elder. Earlier this fall, Gio participated in the pre-rut antlerless deer hunts we hosted.
This year’s event featured leaders from a number of the nations conservation organizations discussing conservation and R3 (recruitment/retention/reactivation of hunters and anglers). In addition, 4-star General Funk from Ft. Eustis, VA joined this years participants.
The youth hunters harvested 8 roosters on a beautiful November day. Youth from Wichita, Winfield and Scott City participated in this years event. In addition to seeing lots of pheasants, the hunters were treated to several mule deer that we flushed from the field, including a nice buck.
On our way back to Wichita, we stopped by the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center in Oakley and then on to Monument Rocks and Little Jerusalem to do a little sight seeing.
We want to thank the great folks with the Ringneck Classic for providing such a great opportunity for the youth participants. We also want to thank Brandon Wilmoth and Bert Maxfield for guiding the young hunters.
