Position Summary: We are seeking a mission-driven fundraising leader to oversee development strategy, fundraising, cultivate donor relationships, oversee grant application program, manage sponsorships and fundraising events. This role is central to driving financial growth, advancing our mission, and expanding our national reach.
The Role: Director of Development
We’re seeking a driven and experienced Director of Development passionate about the great outdoors to lead our fundraising, donor engagement, and partnership efforts. This is a key leadership position that will shape the future of our organization by fueling our mission through strategic fundraising and relationship-building.
As Director of Development, you will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to maximize financial support and expand our impact across the country.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy: Lead execution of an annual development plan with measurable goals for individual, corporate, and foundation giving.
Donor Engagement: Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and major donors. Manage donor communications and acknowledgments.
Grants: Identify funding opportunities and manage grant submissions with support from external grant writers.
Events & Campaigns: Lead fundraising events and peer-to-peer or online campaigns in partnership with the team.
Corporate Relations: Build and maintain sponsorships and strategic partnerships.
Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and communications team on fundraising strategy, donor materials, and impact reporting.
Performance Metrics:
Growth in corporate and event sponsorships
Donation & grant revenue growth
Sustained donor engagement and retention
What You Bring:
A bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in nonprofit fundraising, including success with major gifts, grants, and sponsorships
Strong communication and relationship-building skills to engage donors, partners, and stakeholders
Proven ability to plan and manage fundraising campaigns, with solid project management and organizational skills
Familiarity with fundraising tools and platforms (e.g., EveryAction, Wealth Engine) and knowledge of donor stewardship best practices
Willingness and ability to travel for key donor engagements and events
