2025 Kansas Mentor of the Year: Andrew Leiker
At Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, we believe in recognizing those who exemplify our mission of connecting youth to the great outdoors through dedicated mentorship. This year, we are thrilled to honor Andrew Leiker as the 2025 Kansas Mentor of the Year — a passionate outdoorsman whose dedication, patience, and heart for service have opened doors for countless youth to experience hunting and fishing for the first time.
Andrew’s love for hunting and fishing began at an early age, but it’s his desire to share those experiences that truly defines him. Whether it’s introducing a first-time hunter to the excitement of the field or guiding a young angler through their first cast, Andrew’s calm, encouraging presence ensures every youth feels welcome and supported.
Over the past year, Andrew has invested countless hours volunteering with Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, making sure each outing is about more than just success in the field — it’s about connection, growth, and appreciation for nature. His willingness to give his time, gear, and knowledge exemplifies the spirit of mentorship that drives our mission forward.
Program Coordinator, Gunnar Sullivan, said, “Andrew represents everything we strive for in a mentor. He shows up with a smile, ready to help kids not only learn about hunting and fishing but also gain confidence and respect for the outdoors. His passion is contagious, and the youth he works with walk away inspired.”
We asked Andrew why mentoring matters to him:
“Mentoring youth hunting matters to me because so many people invested in me throughout my life, and this is my way of giving back. Helping kids learn outdoor skills is something I really care about. Getting to watch these young men and young ladies grow their confidence and become leaders to their peers has been the most rewarding thing I have ever been a part of.
I sincerely appreciate the recognition. I can be tough on myself at times, which is why I’m especially honored to receive this award. This award lets me know that I am “enough,” and that means so much to me! – Andrew Leiker
Andrew’s dedication and heart for service have helped countless Kansas youth discover the joy and purpose that comes from time spent outdoors. Through his leadership, they’re learning more than just outdoor skills — they’re learning what it means to be part of a community that values stewardship, perseverance, and giving back.
