2025 Missouri Mentor of the Year: James Bradley
At Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors, we believe in recognizing those who exemplify our mission of connecting youth to the great outdoors through dedicated mentorship. This year, we are thrilled to honor James Bradley as the 2025 Missouri Mentor of the Year — a passionate outdoorsman whose dedication, patience, and heart for service have opened doors for countless youth to experience hunting and fishing for the first time.
James’s journey with Pass It On – Outdoor Mentors began with a simple goal: to give back by sharing his love for hunting and fishing with the next generation. Over time, that goal became a calling. Whether he’s teaching safe firearm handling, helping a young hunter prepare for their first hunt, or guiding a group through a morning on the water, James brings enthusiasm, encouragement, and care to every experience.
Throughout the past year, James has volunteered numerous hours mentoring youth across Missouri, always going the extra mile to ensure every child feels supported and successful. His consistent presence and genuine heart have made a lasting impression on the young people he serves — helping them build confidence, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for the outdoors.
Program Coordinator, Steph Lane, said, ““James embodies what it means to be a mentor. He leads by example — always patient, always encouraging, and genuinely invested in every youth he meets. His ability to connect with kids and make them feel valued is what makes him such an incredible part of our program.”
We asked James about his favorite mentoring moment:
“My favorite memory of mentoring was taking my 7-year-old son on his first deer hunt as he sat on my lap in a 20-ft tripod overlooking a creek bottom. I could feel all the emotions running through him as a little buck stepped out right at daybreak, headed towards us. He took the shot! Before I could say anything. He had gotten down the ladder and was standing by the deer he had just harvested. His smile was priceless!
I am incredibly honored to receive the Mentor of the Year for Missouri and help educate our youth. I like sharing the knowledge I have learned, anywhere from deer stands or ground blind placement, running trot lines, to chasing ol' Tom gobbling on the roost on a crisp spring morning. You can always learn something new every outing you go on at any age.”
James’s impact extends beyond teaching outdoor skills. Through his mentorship, he’s helping shape responsible, confident young men and women who will carry forward a passion for conservation and outdoor heritage — ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.
