Position: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Pass It On Outdoor Mentors is a nonprofit organization with the mission to empower young people through outdoor experiences & mentorship. By using outdoor experiences as a platform to mentor young people of diverse backgrounds, we are making a generational impact through the outdoors and passing on our outdoor heritage.
We’re seeking a mission-driven, entrepreneurial, and strategic leader to serve as our next Chief Executive Officer. The CEO will steward the vision and continued growth of Pass It On Outdoor Mentors—overseeing strategic direction, organizational culture, fundraising, operations, and mission delivery. This role is central to driving national expansion, ensuring sustainability, and elevating the organization’s voice in the outdoor and youth development sectors.
As CEO, you’ll work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, partners, and funders to lead with integrity, inspire impact, and steward a values-driven culture rooted in mentorship and conservation.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Vision & Leadership
Lead and implement the organization’s long-term strategic plan in alignment with its mission and values.
Foster a healthy organizational culture that aligns with core values, prioritizes youth safety, and supports team collaboration and innovation.
Serve as a passionate ambassador of the mission to donors, policymakers, partners, and the public.
Fundraising & Sustainability
Strategy & Supervision: The CEO directly manages the Director of Development (direct report). The CEO sets goals/OKRs, approves the development budget and staffing plan, and conducts regular pipeline/performance reviews.
Revenue Leadership: Drive year-over-year growth in contributed revenue. Ensure balanced revenue mix across major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, and campaigns.
Executive Fundraising: Prioritize top donors; lead or support high-value solicitations and institutional proposals; engage the Board in fundraising.
Programs & Mission Impact
Oversee delivery of high-quality, safe, and mission-aligned outdoor mentoring programs.
Guide programmatic innovation and strategic expansion into new regions.
Ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and risk management best practices in youth programming.
Team & Culture
Lead, coach, and empower a high-performing team, building internal capacity and championing professional development.
Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive work environment.
Guide team performance management and staff alignment with strategic goals.
Board & Governance
Serve as primary liaison to the Board of Directors; ensure alignment on mission, strategic priorities, and organizational health.
Prepare and deliver timely updates on financial performance, strategic progress, and key decisions.
Partner with the Board in executive succession planning and long-term visioning.
Marketing, Communications & Brand
Provide strategic oversight and management of marketing, social media, press relations, and public communications.
Elevate the organization’s brand and visibility across digital and traditional media.
Represent the organization publicly at conferences, events, and meetings.
Financial Management
Develop and manage annual budgets in partnership with finance staff and the Board.
Ensure sound fiscal stewardship and compliance with nonprofit financial best practices.
Oversee cash flow, financial reporting, audits, and funding allocations.

What You Bring
7+ years of senior nonprofit leadership, ideally in the outdoor industry, youth development, or a mission-aligned space.
Proven ability to lead through change and growth with a strong strategic lens.
Track record of successful fundraising, team leadership, and stakeholder engagement.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Deep passion for the outdoors, youth development, and building inclusive mentorship opportunities.
Proven ability to plan and manage fundraising campaigns, with solid project management and organizational skills
Familiarity with fundraising tools and platforms (e.g., EveryAction, Wealth Engine) and knowledge of donor stewardship best practices
Willingness and ability to travel for key donor engagements and events
